Recap / Jay Jay The Jet Plane Upside Down Waterfall

Go To

When Snuffy witnesses an "upside down waterfall" he jets back to the airport to tell the others. Jay Jay and the gang question such a thing - "water running upside down?" Jay Jay spouts on and on about not believing what he has heard from Snuffy — until he talks with Brenda Blue. Brenda explains that you shouldn't doubt what someone says just because you've never seen or heard of it before. The world is full of surprises... if you just keep your mind open! Jay Jay and the gang soon discover that what Snuffy really saw was actually an upside down waterfall. Everyone rallies around Snuffy and the cool discovery he has made.

"Upside Down Waterfall" provides examples of:

  • An Aesop: You should always believe your friends if they see something, even if it doesn't make sense at first.
  • Buffy Speak: Snuffy, describing what he saw as an "upside down waterfall". It's really a geyser.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Jay Jay, for most of the episode.
  • Jaw Drop: Snuffy's reaction when he discovers the upside down waterfall.
  • Lyrical Dissonance: The song "Up Is Up" sounds bouncy and upbeat, but Jay Jay is teaching Snuffy about the laws of nature and is serious while doing so. Averted in the reprise when he admits Snuffy was right.
  • Minimalist Cast: Jay Jay, Tracy, Snuffy and Brenda are the only characters who appear.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Although Jay Jay is usually optimistic and cheerful, he spends the majority of the episode being annoyed and flat towards Snuffy's discovery.
  • Patter Song: "Up Is Up" plays this straight, actions and descriptions and all.
  • Triumphant Reprise: When first singing "Up Is Up", Jay Jay sounds snarky and disbelieving; when he sings it again at the end, he's more happy and forgiving.
