Recap / Hercules The Animated Series S 1 E 20 Hercules And The Disappearing Heroes

Go To

Hecate has a new plan to take over the Underworld by draining Greece's heroes of their most prominent heroic traits, which she will infuse into a monster to defeat Hades with. Hercules catches wind of the plan, but they're unable to stop her stealing Odysseus's cunning.

Thankfully, the last thing she needs is godly strength, and Herc has plenty to spare! Tricking Hecate into capturing him as well, Hercules and the heroes use their collective weaknesses to stall the monster until an unamused Hades arrives, putting the kibosh on the witch's scheme.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Captured on Purpose: Hercules allows Hecate to capture him and drain his strength so he can be taken to the Underworld with the other prisoners, and Phil and Icarus can follow and free them.
  • Friendship Trinket: Hades gives Hecate a "Thanks for the blind obedience" statuette as a reward for "stopping" her monster. She gives it to the heroes for bowling practice.
  • Necessary Drawback: With each hero's strengths, the monster inherits a logical weakness associated with the same, such as Meleager's exceptional hearing being vulnerable to very loud noises.
  • Out-Gambitted: Herc tricks Hecate into taking his strength away so he can get sent to the Underworld, and he and the others use their collective weaknesses to stall Hecate's monster until Hades shows up.
  • Power Parasite: Hecate uses her magic to take away heroic traits and infuse them into a monster.
  • Something We Forgot: Hecate is all set to bust down Hades' door and take the throne...until she realizes the monster has no strength to open it, and has trouble ripping a piece of paper.
