A Daring Rescue

Harry wakes from Vernon's assault, days later, to find himself locked in his room, with multiple broken bones and apparent nerve damage that makes it difficult for him to move around at all. He is also unable to reach his wand, and can only wait for the Weasleys to come for him as they did in the original timeline.

When Ron and the Twins do turn up to check on him, at Ginny's insistence due to his lack of letters, they are horrified by the state of his injuries. Mrs Weasley, upon seeing him, forgets her anger at the boys for sneaking out, and promptly takes him to St Mungo's hospital, where his injuries are treated and she is questioned about the incident by Aurors. Mr. Weasley, meanwhile, goes to confront Professor Dumbledore about Harry's placement at the Dursleys', learning that Dumbledore had discovered their increased hostility and attempted to address it by erasing their memories of the incident that triggered it; the memory charm apparently either failed, or was removed by a third party, by the time Harry came home. Arthur announces his intention to remove them as Harry's guardians, despite Dumbledore's concerns about losing the blood protection.

  • And I Must Scream: Harry can barely move or speak while lying on his bed, only wait helplessly as he feels his injuries deteriorate, and hope that the Weasleys are still coming.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • Ron willingly breaks the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery so he can move Harry without hurting him.
    • Mrs. Weasley finds apparating very uncomfortable, but she puts it aside to bring Harry to St. Mungo's.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Dumbledore attempted to fix the Dursleys' hostility by altering their memories of the incident that sparked it. Mr Weasley speculates that the reason they blew up at Harry could have been due to someone abruptly breaking the charm.
