Mondstadt is a land of wind-swept plains and hills governed by Lord Barbatos, the Anemo Archon and God of Freedom. The nation is known throughout Teyvat for lacking a strong, centralized government, being de facto ruled by the Knights of Favonius, a military order founded to uphold their Archon's philosophy of liberty for his people, having had a bitter experience of tyranny both under Decarabian, god of storms who Barbatos defeated two thousand years ago, and the House of Lawrence, who were overthrown in an uprising a thousand years ago led by Vennessa, who would go on to found the Knights of Favonius. In addition, alcohol plays a prominent role in its social and economic life; according to legend, Barbatos is fond of alcoholic drinks, and Mondstadt is the largest exporter of wine throughout Teyvat.

City of Mondstadt [Starfell Valley]

The eponymous capital of Mondstadt is a walled city located on a large, sloping island in the middle of Cider Lake. Befitting its windy god, it is known for several windmills and a large statue of Barbatos gracing the summit of the city in front of the Favonius Cathedral, the principal place of worship to the Anemo Archon. In the middle tier of the city lay the headquarters of the Knights of Favonius, the local branch of the Adventurers' Guild, and the Goth Grand Hotel, currently occupied by the Fatui as their local base of operations. Among noteworthy sights at the downtown market district are Angel's Share, the flagship tavern of the Dawn Winery; the Cat's Tail, a rival tavern to Angel's Share and host to Genius Invokation trading card game sessions; Good Hunter, a popular diner; and the Adventurers' Guild Hall, where the Traveler requests for commissions from its friendly receptionist Katheryne.

There are two variations to this Commission, which are given randomly: either they find him plastered again at Angel's Share, or he is busy shopping at Quinn's fruit stall.

Stop, Albert, Stop!

Sister Victoria is having trouble dealing with Albert, a notorious Barbara fanboy, lurking around the Favonius Cathedral, so she asks the Traveler to deal with him.     The Secret of Sister Jilliana (Daily Commission pseudo-series)

Grateful to the Gods

Released: v1.0 "Welcome to Teyvat" (September 28, 2020)
Sister Jilliana, a nun of the Church of Favonius, is busy looking after her daughter Lily, so she asks the Traveler to clean a Statue of the Seven. There are three variations to this Commission depending on which Statue to clean: that in the middle of Starfell Lake; on a plateau east of Dawn Winery; or in front of the Symbol of Mondstadt's Hero in Windrise.

A Surprise Gift

Released: v1.0 "Welcome to Teyvat" (September 28, 2020)
NOTE: Repeating this Commission unlocks, in order, the Marjorie, Quinn, Sara, and Vile versions; the latter is one-time only, and will be removed from the options afterwards
Rudolph, Jilliana's husband, is contemplating giving her a gift. The Traveler can suggest buying a gift either from With Wind Comes Glory; fruits from Quinn, a produce vendor near the city gate, which also involves protecting a cart of goods from monsters; a dish from Good Hunter, which involves Sara asking the Traveler to make an express delivery in the meantime; or a special gift from Vile, an information broker.

If the Traveler buys the gift from Vile, however, Jilliana disappears, to Rudolph's confusion. Based on a tip from Vile, the Traveler finds her in Whispering Wood arguing with a gang of Treasure Hoarders led by Scrooge, where it is revealed that Jilliana was a former Hoarder who the gang have been extorting money from, through threats to her family, in exchange for keeping her desertion a secret from their superior; with said leader's patience wearing thin from the gang's dwindling returns, however, Scrooge now threatens serious harm unless she returns to their fold, or, failing that, ransack Favonius Cathedral. At this point the Traveler intervenes and drives them back.

With her former comrades gone, Jilliana confesses to having been a former Hoarder before she escaped her gang, was taken in by Sister Victoria, married Rudolf, and bore Lily, even as she quietly bore the brunt of Scrooge's financial harassment for years. Furthermore, she reveals that the gift from Rudolf—and Vile—contained a Treasure Hoarder insignia, which she took as a sign that she ought to confront her past. With the matter settled, Jilliana decides to return to the City and confess to Victoria about her history.

Before reporting back to Rudolf, the Traveler can confront Vile about the gift, who explains that Jilliana cannot hide from her problems forever, hence she—and the Traveler—was provoked into taking action through a tip from a certain gentleman, heavily implied to be Kaeya, without alerting the Knights of Favonius lest their unsubtle methods risk compromising the new life she has made for herself.

A Commission from "That Guy"

Released: v1.2 "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon" (December 23, 2020)
Prerequisite: Complete the Vile version of "A Surprise Gift"
Vile has a new commission for the Traveler from her anonymous tipster, again implied to be Kaeya, to tie up loose ends from the whole affair with Sister Jilliana, who is currently awaiting Sister Victoria's judgment. A large contingent of Treasure Hoarders has been detected on the City's outskirts, bent on punishing Jilliana for desertion and avenging Scrooge's gang; again, Vile cannot just tip off the Knights of Favonius, lest their unsubtle methods give the bandits time to escape, hence she has the Traveler deal with them. There are two versions to this Daily Commission, where the Traveler either deals with the Hoarders by themselves, or they instead tip off Huffman and help him set up an ambush.

There she tells the Traveler that the letter concerns the fate of Timmie's father, a good friend and fellow hunter of Draff who died in a hunting accident years ago, after which Draff put the boy in her care while he returned to Springvale to resume hunting and keep sending him Mora as well as letters while posing as his father; as much as she agrees with Draff that Timmie ought to know the truth, she is hesitant to do so until he comes of age. At Grace's bidding, the Traveler visits Timmie at the bridge again, still writing letters to his father. At his request, the Traveler procures dandelion seeds for him to enclose with the letter, which he then has them sent to Draff, who then asks the Traveler to also keep the truth about Timmie's father a secret between them and Grace.

Brightcrown Mountains

The forlorn northwestern region of Mondstadt, accessible only through a gorge northwest of Dawn Winery as well as the boar habitat of Brightcrown Canyon north of Wolvendom. Both routes converge to the ruins of Decarabian's old city of Mondstadt, now known as Stormterror's Lair ever since the corrupted Dvalin made roost here, in the center of which is a tower from which Decarabian once ruled his people with an iron fist.

Dragonspine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emblem_dragonspine.png
A forbidding, frozen mountain southwest of Dadaupa Gorge. The Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild has recently begun an expedition to uncover the mountain's secrets, said in legend to be the home of the ancient kingdom of Sal Vindagnyr. To the northwest lay Wyrmrest Valley, the final resting place of Durin, an evil dragon defeated by Barbatos and Dvalin centuries ago; to the southeast, the Entombed City of Vindagnyr; underneath the mountain lay Starglow Cavern, where peculiar vegetation grow; and at the summit lay Skyfrost Nail, where a strange, large pillar fell from the heavens, bringing an icy end to Sal Vindagnyr.

In the Mountains

Released: v1.2 "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon" (December 23, 2020)
Prerequisite Quest: "Low-Temperature Warning" (World Quest)
Unlocked Feature: Frostbearing Tree (a mystical tree which provides valuable rewards by offering it Crimson Agates found throughout Dragonspine)
World Effect: Unlocks the Skyfrost Nail area and, starting v1.5, the Cryo Hypostasis regular boss in the Entombed City
Iris alerts the Traveler to hotspots of extreme cold concentrated around huge blocks of incredibly tough ice that cannot be melted by conventional means. Along the way the Traveler and Paimon encounter one such block of ice just south of the Adventurer Camp; using mystical stones called Scarlet Quartz, they melt the ice to reveal a crystal orb which flies to the summit of Dragonspine, as well as reveals the Frostbearing Tree, a strange, gnarled tree with blood-red crystals sprouting from its branches.

The Traveler and Paimon eventually reach a cave, only to be rebuffed by strong gusts of wind, forcing them to retreat to the Adventurer Camp and report back to Iris. Recalling the report of an earlier expedition team that also reached as far as the Traveler did, she notes the presence of strange blue plants in areas where the blocks of ice were found, and suggests to the Traveler that they investigate two such locations: in the Starglow Cavern, sealed behind a Cryo barrier that can only be released after battling hilichurls and Abyss Mages, and in a cave beneath the outskirts of the Entombed City, protected by Ruin Guards and their advanced counterpart, the Ruin Graders.

Once all three orbs have been released, the gust subsides, allowing the Traveler and Paimon to pick up where they left off. Upon reaching the summit, they find a massive, pillar-like object stuck in an icy pool, as well as the three orbs having been stuck in ice anew. Upon unfreezing them again, the shards converge around the pillar, dislodging it from the ice and allowing it to hover in the sky, while the ice beneath melts away to reveal a ruin underneath. Afterwards, the Traveler reports back to Iris, who promises to send more adventurers to uncover the mountain's secrets.

The Great Mountain Survey (World Quest pseudo-series)
Released: v1.2 "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon" (December 23, 2020)

The Great Mountain Survey

Esther, an environmentalist and researcher, asks the Traveler for help retrieving four survey beacons she and her expedition team lost in a monster attack outside the western entrance to Starglow Cavern. Upon returning, Esther laments the damaged state of the beacons, forcing her to conduct smaller-scale surveys in the meantime; for lack of new expedition teams, she hands the Traveler four beacons in a more pristine state to place on four peaks throughout Dragonspine—west of Wyrmrest Valley, next to Albedo's base camp, atop a broken pillar near the path to the Frostbearing Tree, and south of the western entrance to Starglow Cavern.

The Great Mountain Survey II

Additional Prerequisite: "In the Mountains" (World Quest)
Despite the progress, Esther is still unable to complete her survey of Dragonspine for lack of serviceable beacons, much less ready adventurers, so she recruits the Traveler anew to plant another beacon, this time at the mountain's summit. Upon reporting back, Esther then refers them to Cyrus for their monetary compensation, in addition to handing them a letter for him requesting for adventurers to join her next expedition.

Prerequisites: Clear "In the Mountains" (World) or defeat the Great Snowboar King beforehand
Harris, chef at the Adventurer Camp, has received inspiration from an ancient recipe and ropes the Traveler into searching for chilled meat from boars that got frozen in the mountain, as well as meat from the so-called "Great Frostboar King," with which Harris creates a dish to help keep adventurers warm in Dragonspine.

A Land Entombed

Released: v1.2 "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon" (December 23, 2020)
The Traveler and Paimon find a strange journal buried in Dragonspine. Back at the Adventurer Camp, the duo consult Stevens, a researcher stationed there, who recalls that an expedition team during the aristocratic era centuries ago investigated three sites; given that one of those sites was where the Traveler found the journal, they intuit that other journals can be found there, which could hopefully provide clues to what the earlier team was investigating.

Once all three journals are found—from a secret chamber in the Entombed City, underneath a cellar near the western entrance of Starglow Cavern covered in rime and guarded by a Ruin Grader, and in a shelf in a makeshift camp in Starglow Cavern—the Traveler, Paimon, and Stevens collate information from the journals, which detail an ill-fated expedition by aristocrats forced to flee Mondstadt following Vennessa's revolt, its ranks dwindled through the treachery of one Eberhart, an illegitimate son of the Landrich Clan, who the writer suspects may have taken advantage of his legitimate half-brother Ingbert's love of adventure to lure the other nobles to their doom so he can quickly rise up the family's line of succession. That said, Stevens theorizes that lack of official records about the expedition suggests that Eberhart may have disappeared before he could return to Mondstadt, inspiring him to continue his investigation.

The Festering Fang

Released: v1.2 "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon" (December 23, 2020)
Curious about a strange dragon tooth they found, the Traveler asks Orban, a blacksmith at the Adventurer Camp, about it. Upon returning to Orban, he remembers tales about needing to revitalize the teeth with the energy from the crystal the Traveler found earlier. Their activities, however, attract the Fatui, and after beating them off the Traveler returns with the empowered tooth to forge into a spear.

Historically known as the Haar Islands, legend has it that these were created from remnants of mountaintops displaced by Barbatos when he terraformed Mondstadt. While at present the Traveler found it covered in fog, their later adventures throughout the islands revealed a history of settlement, first by an unknown group of shipwreck survivors, then, a few centuries ago, by an Inazuman pirate fleet led by Ako Domeki, who fled Shogunate forces and brought with them a samurai puppet.
