Accidental Murder: Because he was not aware of his power, Shiro accidentally killed his previous owner.
Bait-and-Switch: The cold open makes it seem that the Yōkai of the week is purposefully draining people's energy by showing an old man hysterically coughing and the Yōkai coming into the room leading to his death. Only to later show said Yōkai acting as a playful cat with an old woman. Eventually, it's revealed that Shiro wasn't aware he was a Yokai at all.
Break His Heart to Save Him: Shiro does this, trying to claim that he was just deceiving Masae and was only with her to drain her energy. When this doesn't work he threatens to devour her so Shō could attack him, making him escape off into the mountains.
Tomato in the Mirror: Shiro is told that he's a yokai called Sunekosuri, which is capable of draining the energy of people. At first, he denies this, but after Masae's illness worsens after holding him, he is devastated and runs off into the mountains.
