The Huangs spend Chinese New Year with the Lees, and while Elaine tries to help Jessica build a better relationship with Grandma Jenny, Louis and Emery learn about Julius and Horace's tradition of starting the year with a wrestling match to air out past grievances.
- Blackmail: Jessica tries to bond with Grandma Jenny by sharing secrets with her, only for Grandma to threaten to reveal them if she doesn't get special treatment for their New Year's dinner. Later, Jessica realizes that Grandma has a Tell and threatens to take advantage of it if they don't return to status quo.
- Dude, Where's My Respect?: Emery ends up fighting with Louis because of Middle Child Syndrome, and Grandma was trying to Blackmail Jessica because Jessica's ousted her as head of the household and made her feel useless.
- The Gambling Addict: Eddie makes a bet with Evan over family wrestling, and after losing, is desperate to make further bets in order to win his money back.
- I Have No Idea What I'm Doing: In The Tag, Eddie tries to get some money back after various failed bets with Evan by joining Jessica, Grandma, and Elaine's Mahjong game, then stating he'll figure out how to play as they go along before trying to go "all-in" like he's playing poker.
- Middle Child Syndrome: Emery goes through this, as Louis properly introduces him to Julius Lee as the son that currently needs a retainer, rather than mentioning any of his actual accomplishments like with Eddie or Evan.
- The Tell: Jessica realizes during their time together that Grandma cracks her knuckles when she sees what she wants, whether it's a tile in Mahjong or a preferred snack on a buffet tray. Grandma herself isn't aware that she does this, and even at the end of the episode, Jessica refuses to tell her to keep an advantage over her.
