The Huang family visits Taiwan to attend the wedding of Louis' brother, Gene, and successful actress Margaret (played by Ann Hsu). Louis is stunned at both Gene's success and how beautiful his fiancée is, cursing himself for starting over in America. While Jessica finds that much has changed from her idealized memories of her home country, she also admits she loves her life in America and convinces Louis that he made the right move. Meanwhile, Eddie promised to contact Alison via fax while he was away, but finds access to a fax machine difficult.
- Bait-and-Switch: In The Tag, Alison comes to Eddie and tells him it's over. Eddie assumes she means their relationship, and apologizes for not being able to fax her while in Taiwan. Alison completely understands, and in fact assumed that was the case; what she actually meant was that their sports team was bought out by another city.
- Sadist Teacher: Evan is excited to check out what school is like in Taiwan, only to see a kid get injured by the teacher for having the right answer but not answering fast enough.
- Shout-Out: Gene and Margaret's wedding is themed after Ghost.
- You Can't Go Home Again: Jessica is repeatedly humbled by her experiences in Taiwan, such as trying to buy knock-off sneakers for Eddie only for them to fall apart in literally a few steps, and realizes that she's much happier home in America.
