Recap / Fates Collide Ch 29 Those Around You

Go To

Yang, Mordred, and Cleopatra walk together. Mordred complains that because Yang slept all night due to getting knocked out in her fight against Penthesilea, Mordred had to do her writing homework for her as well as her own. Mordred complains about Hans Christian Anderson's writing class, as she would rather have adventures than write about them. Cleopatra says writing is good, as people will know their stories after they die, and they will have stories to tell their children. Mordred says she doesn't care if she is remembered after her death and she isn't planning to have kids. Cleopatra snarks that Mordred would have to get a boyfriend first to have kids and that is not likely to happen because of her attitude. Mordred angrily says she's not interested in boys, but Yang puts her in a headlock and says she has to have some fun once in a while.

They come to a room that Cleopatra says is for the privileged students, but she will let them in because they are friends. It is a recreation room. An albino girl with a long ponytail in a short white gi with blue pants that expose part of her legs is playing a video game. Her in game avatar looks like her with samurai armor and black horns coming out of her head. She is battling hordes of Grimm. A dark skinned girl with canine ears, wearing a white cloak over her head with eyes drawn on it is taking a nap. While Mordred gets soda from a machine, Yang asks who these two are. Cleopatra flicks the sleeping girl's ears, causing her to wake up with a start. Under her cloak, she only wears white undergarments and golden jewelry. Cleopatra introduces her as Nitocris. Nitocris complains that she has to sleep because she just went to Mata Hari's dance class and it wore her out. Cleopatra comments it would be easier for her if she didn't insist on wearing high heels. Yang introduces herself and shakes Nitocris' hand, but Nitocris sniffs her and asks if she has a cat. Noting to herself that she is a dog Faunus, Yang explains she is friends with a cat Faunus.

The girl playing the video game hasn't reacted to anything. Cleopatra pats her on the head and says she is Tomoe Gozen, an Archer who is also skilled with swords and naginata. She is not very social and prefers video games. Tomoe's character takes a hit and she starts yelling. Mordred passes soda cans to everyone. Nitocris opens her can, but it sprays in her face. Mordred apologizes because it seems the machine shook the cans up. Cleopatra taps on the top of her can and it opens without spraying. Yang tries it and it works, which she thinks is cool. Tomoe takes her can, opens and drinks from it with one hand, then tosses it into a trash can, all without looking away from her game. She thanks Mordred for the drink and Yang for complementing her throw. Cleopatra comments on Mordred being unusually nice, and she says she can be nice to people she likes. Yang asks if Tomoe and Nitocris are the rest of her teammates besides Edmond, but she explains that the room is for many people. Just because they aren't teammates doesn't mean they can't hang out. Yang does a toast to meeting new friends.

Astolfo walks in and Yang asks where Ruby is. He says she is taking a shower and asked him to leave the room. He says he doesn't understand why, after all, she saw him after he took a shower when they first met. Yang starts to get angry, and her soda starts to steam from the fire she is producing. She asks if he at least had a towel, and he confirms it, then absentmindedly talks about dropping it and then Ruby fainting. Enraged, Yang chases him out of the room. Mordred counts down from five. When she gets to one, they hear Astolfo scream and then a gunshot. Yang walks back in and says they should call a medic because she broke his pelvis. All the girls wince. Mordred calls a medic with her scroll and mutters under her breath that she hopes Yang doesn't act like that when Ruby starts dating.

In the Einzbern castle, Cinder puts on her combat uniform in the bathroom and looks herself over in the mirror. She removes her eyepatch and is happy to find her eye has healed. When she walks out, Chloe approaches and asks what the tattoo on her back means. Cinder in turn asks what the tattoo on Chloe's stomach means. Chloe says she'll explain hers if Cinder explains hers. Cinder says she's not interested in this game and starts to walk away. Chloe catches up to her and explains that her tattoo is a rune that links her soul with Shirou's. This allows her to borrow some of his powers, including his ability to Trace weapons, as she demonstrates by summoning Kanshou and Bakuya. Cinder asks if she can bring out Unlimited Blade Works, and she says no. The rune has a side effect that she experiences any pain and injuries Shirou experiences, which he is not happy about, but she likes it because whenever Shirou goes on a mission and nothing happens to her, it means he is safe.

Cinder explains that her tattoo is a reminder of the costs and sacrifices she had to make to become powerful. Chloe comments she heard tattoos on a girl's back are called tr-... Cinder covers her mouth with her hand and says she's too young to say words like that, and her tattoo is not that. Chloe says she guesses Cinder is too old for that term anyway. Cinder gets angry and her eyes light up with fire. Chloe smirks, bids her goodbye, blows her a kiss, and vanishes into thin air. Bewildered, Cinder searches the room, then grins and comments Chloe reminds her of herself at that age.

Glynda walks with Medea to the staff lounge. Medea now wears a purple dress with black sleeves and gloves, silver wristbands, and a piece of birdlike jewelry over her chest. Glynda thanks her for teaching her so much. Now she can start her class early. Medea says she is glad for another female teacher as the males can be uncouth. They hear a lion-like roar. Glynda gets scared and readies her riding crop, but Medea says it is not a Grimm. They step inside and see a huge man in blue spandex with silver armor on his shoulders and elbows. His head is a white lion's head. Facing him is a man in a suit with a mechanical glove on his right hand that constantly sparks with electricity. The gloved man tells the lion man not to roar in this room as they are trying to be civilized, but the lion man says his roar is a part of him. The two begin to argue. The lion man believes direct current is superior while the gloved man believes alternating current is superior. Headmaster Zhuge Liang picked alternating current, so the gloved man was made Head of Communications and Academy Power and all the towns had alternating current wires installed while the lion man was made a physics professor.

Medea sighs that these two argue all the time and gets coffee. The two bid Medea good morning and introduce themselves to Glynda. The lion man is Thomas Alva Edison, the King of Inventors. She says she had never seen a Faunus that looked like him. He blushes and says he stands up for his fellow Faunus, and that he uses a special shampoo so that his mane always looks great. The gloved man jokes that all it does is make him look like a toy and says his name is Nikola Tesla. He says he is a genius and his glove, Legend of Mankind, is his greatest invention. He offers her a handshake, promising the glove won't shock her. She declines, saying he is very arrogant and should stop disregarding other people's views. She then tells Edison that raising his voice to try to win an argument is juvenile. Medea gives her some coffee and Glynda comments that it seems no matter the region, men always turn it into a measuring contest. She walks out of the room, and Medea says she likes her before following her. Edison and Tesla wonder what she meant by measuring contest before arguing again.
