Recap / Fates Collide Ch 28 Switching Things Up

Go To

The next morning, Mercury meets Emerald and they walk together. Drake's class had returned last night. He teases her by asking if she confessed to Robin Hood, but pisses her off by referring to him as Roman. She says she didn't yet, and adds she had a great time with everyone on the trip. He gets serious and warns her not to get attached, or else it will hurt once Cinder decides she had learned everything she needs to know and decides it is time to leave. She says she is simply doing her job of blending in, and at least she is not a loner loser like him.

A door opens and smacks Mercury in the face. The girl on the other side apologizes. She has a single black pigtail that almost touches the ground, but Mercury and Emerald are taken aback because except for samurai style armor on her shoulders and hips and sandals, she is pretty much wearing a bikini bottom and two flaps of cloth that cover her breasts. She has a sword in a sheath that resembles a raccoon tail. Emerald asks if she is getting dressed, but she claims it is her regular outfit. She introduces herself as Ushiwakamaru and the two introduce themselves as well. When she gets a good look at Mercury's face, she suddenly freaks out and runs away. He wonders what that was about, but giggles and says her outfit was hot, causing Emerald to call him a pig.

Jack the Ripper, whose arm has healed, walks up and greets them, giving Mercury a hug. She is carrying a huge book titled "Alice in Wonderland". Mercury is utterly shocked because he had previously seen her in a hospital gown, but now she just wears a vest, thigh high stockings, purple shoes, and a thong. Four knives hang from her waist. Emerald glares at Mercury, and he asks Jack what she is wearing. She claims it is her combat outfit that her mother picked for her, and she wanted to introduce him to her friend, holding up the book. He is confused, but the book opens by itself and pink smoke comes out of it. Playing cards, candy, and dolls fly out of it, then the smoke clears to reveal a little girl with grey hair in two ponytails wearing a black poofy dress and black hat. Mercury is shocked by this, but Emerald says she's seen so many weird things during Drake's field trip that nothing phases her anymore.

The girl greets them and introduces herself as Nursery Rhyme. Jack hugs her and says she is her best friend, then introduces Mercury, saying he is the man who helped her open her food container the other day. Emerald says Mercury had told her about that. She is about to say Mercury thought Jack was a freak when Mercury hand gags her and drags her away, claiming they have to get to classes. Jack asks if they can have a tea party later, and he says yes. When they are far enough away, Emerald hits him and asks why he did that, and he says he doesn't want to antagonize Jack because he feels she can easily kill him. The two go their separate ways.

Jaune, Pyrrha, Jeanne, and Mash go to Dr. Roman's lab. Caren Hortensia is there and says Dr. Roman is busy with a meeting, so she is filling in. Jaune asks to change his Class from Saber to something else. She looks up his data in the computer and says he is not compatible with any of the other six Classes except for Berserker, but if he does that he will go insane. He is disappointed and thought he could at least be a Rider because he can work well with his horse. Jeanne asks if he is compatible with the extra Classes. Caren checks and finds he can become a Shielder, which makes sense since he does wield a collapsible shield. Mash is happy as this means she won't be the only Shielder anymore. Caren asks for his Class Card and she puts it on the table. She tells him to get into a pod. The pod is soundproof, but Caren can read his lips when he asks if it is going to hurt. Instead of answering, she presses a button and he is zapped with electricity, screaming in agony. When the pod opens, smoke comes out and he falls on his face. Pyrrha helps him up and he says he doesn't feel any different. Caren says a Class Change changes one's view of themself, changing their skills. To his chagrin, she used his Class Card as a coaster for her drink, but it has indeed changed to Shielder. He is ecstatic to find all his stats have increased, except his luck, which went down.

Jeanne reminds him he has to train to learn how to fight like a Shielder, and Mash offers to let him train with her and her father. As they walk out, they run into Weiss, who is carrying a huge stack of books. Weiss says she is in a hurry because she has a private class with Semiramis. As she walks away, Pyrrha gets confused and asks why Jaune didn't offer to help her carry the books. He says she looked like she could handle herself, then says he's hungry and invites Mash to the cafeteria. Pyrrha tells Jeanne that Jaune was obsessed with Weiss and would normally scramble to help her. Jeanne says a Class Change often alters your personality. Pyrrha becomes happy to hear this, since she has a crush on Jaune, then leaves to go to her private class with Vlad. Caren reminds Jeanne she should go to the meeting, and she becomes sad and leaves.

Nora, Frankenstein, and Emerald go to a math class. Fran's headpiece and dress are repaired, but her arm is in a sling. Neo and Jekyll are already inside playing chess until class starts. The teacher, a middle aged man in a suit and red ascot, immediately runs up and hugs Fran, doting on her while she calls him "Papa". He is able to understand Fran's speech. He introduces himself as James Moriarty, Fran's father. Nora points out he looks really old to be the father of a teenager, but he says he adopted Fran after her father abandoned her. Fran becomes upset, and he promises he won't mention that again.

Moriarty explains Fran had called him earlier and told him about their adventure on the island. He thanks Nora from the bottom of his heart for saving Fran's life. Nora asks if this means he'll give her an automatic A for his class, but he tells her not to push her luck. Fran had told him about how Nora's weapon Magnhild was destroyed, and Nora confirms this as she has tried to summon it and nothing happens. Moriarty says he forged a new weapon for her and presents it. It is called "Skewered Plasma Blade: Thunder Blade of Impalement", and it looks like an enormous sword hilt, about five feet long. Nora is not enthusiastic and says she's not into swords. He asks her to at least try it, and instructs her to hold it and pour her electricity into it. Once she does, a huge plasma blade emerges from the hilt. Nora becomes very excited and swings it around, cutting a table in half. Emerald comments Nora should change her Class to Saber and Nora agrees. Moriarty offers to help train her to use it effectively, but says it is time for class to begin, killing her good mood. Neo gets a checkmate, and Moriarty comments Jekyll lost three games in a row, while Jekyll stares in shock.
