At Beacon Academy, finals have just ended. Jaune Arc is in the library on a computer. Ruby Rose asks how he did, and he says he barely passed thanks to Pyrrha Nikos' tutelage. Ruby passed thanks to Weiss Schnee's tutelage. She asks him what Team JNPR will do over summer break, saying her own Team RWBY is trying to decide what to do, and he replies his team hadn't decided either. He then explains he is chatting on the computer with his sister.
Ruby looks at the screen, where Jaune's sister says her school has an exchange program and invites him to come over and train with her. Ruby becomes excited and says their teams can take the exchange program for the break. Jaune points out the point of summer break is to get away from school, but Ruby says they can learn new things and she wants to meet his sister. Jaune concedes he hadn't seen her in a while and says he'll agree if they can get both of their teams to agree.
A few days later, Team RWBY, Team JNPR, Glynda Goodwitch, and a team of four other students are on a plane to the other academy. Ruby thanks Glynda for authorizing the trip and coming with them. Glynda says it was an opportunity to satisfy Beacon Academy's curiosity about the other academy. She's looked it up on her scroll and found it uses different terminology than the other kingdoms. Ruby goes to the bathroom and passes by the other four students, commenting they seem nice.
At the airport, they are received by Jaune's sister, Jeanne. Yang Xiao Long gets confused by their similar names and the siblings joke it used to confuse them as well. They enter a bus and drive through a tranquil town. Jeanne welcomes them to the kingdom of Apocrypha. Ruby comments on how the kingdom is surrounded by a wide open plain that would make it vulnerable to Grimm attacks. Jeanne explains that due to constant Grimm attacks, many citizens leave for other kingdoms. Those who stay become incredibly strong and vigilant to fight them off. In Apocrypha, they don't call their defenders Huntsmen and Huntresses, they call them Heroic Spirits. The group arrives at an enormous castle that is guarded by clay golems. Jeanne welcomes them all to Chaldea Academy.
