Frank takes Bill to a baseball game, Kevin blows off his homework and Susan and Maureen go shopping and each face their own emotional issues.
Tropes:
- Brain Bleach: This is the start of many for Bill. Having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the game, he goes to the titular trough that is where other men are peeing, and he is not happy with what he sees going on in there.
- Chekhov's Gunman: While driving through a sketchy neighborhood, Frank stops at a stoplight and a black person approaches his truck asking for gas, and the scared Frank drives off before he could reach him. That was actually Jim Jeffords in disguise with blackface, to see how Frank would react, and his scared response makes him labeled as a person of racism. Rosie sees this in the TV later that night, and already feeling bitter over him siding with Dunbarton, this double issue is what makes him decide to start the strike.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: The "black" man who asks Frank for gas for his truck? Take a very close look at his hands.
- Mushroom Samba: A tripping Kevin is hanging out with his friends, and while smoking marijuana, he has a dream sequence of Frank (while stylized in artwork of a happy record he likes to listen to) encouraging him while a younger Kevin has fun with him.
