Recap / Everybody Hates Chris S 1 E 7 Everybody Hates The Babysitter

Go To

  • Bittersweet Ending: At the end Chris has an outburst revealing everything that happened with the babysitter and after that Chris’ parents are pissed... at the Babysiter making it one of the few episodes where nothing bad happens to Chris in the end.
  • From Bad to Worse: Happens to both Chris at home, and Julius and Rochelle at the restaurant.
    • Yvette has to step out to get her baby, right when Tonya gets hungry. Once she returns, she realizes that she burned the chicken Rochelle had cooking, and steps out again to get some fried chicken, leaving the kids with the baby. Then the baby's father and Yvette's boyfriend Mario shows up at their door to take him. Once Yvette returns with the food, when she realizes Mario has her baby, she steps out yet again. Tonya promptly attempts to call the restaurant Julius and Rochelle are eating at, but thankfully (in a very loose sense of the word), it's in the middle of being robbed. Then Yvette's mother shows up to pick up her grandson, and decides to come in to wait for her daughter. When Yvette returns again, they have a bicker back and forth about Yvette's responsibilities under her mother's roof until Chris intervenes and tells Mrs. Sanders to take the baby home. Everything seems to cool off from there, until Yvette suggests babysitting again next week..
    • Julius and Rochelle order their food, which gets a bit pricey and the coupon Julius has doesn't include the dish Rochelle wants. When they get their food, Rochelle's dish comes with a side of potato salad instead of coleslaw. Apparently the dish comes with potato salad and they can't get coleslaw unless they pay 79¢, getting back in line first, which has gotten very long. Rochelle suggests getting a bowl to share Julius' coleslaw, but the restaurant has a ridiculous no-sharing policy. The restaurant has Julius wait to be given a tiny cup of coleslaw, and Rochelle decides to check up on the kids against Julius' reassurance. They wait 30 minutes for the coleslaw against Rochelle's wishes, who doesn't see it as a big deal. Julius apologizes and they share a tender moment before two goons rob the place.
  • Hope Spot:
    • Julius and Rochelle wait a long time for a tiny cup of coleslaw, to Rochelle's chagrin. Julius apologizes sincerely and the two seem to share a sweet moment until the restaurant gets robbed.
    • Once Yvette's mother decides to take the baby home, the problems seem to be resolved until Chris finally gets to sit down and realizes he missed the entire game. Still, at least the major damage is fixed, but then Yvette suggests she babysit them again..
  • Jerkass: The manager of the restaurant "Pasture and Shores" who has a "no-sharing" policy for customers(which seems very difficult to enforce to say the least).
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Julius gives Chris "emergency money" (ten dollars), as he doesn't want his date with Rochelle ruined.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: Chris at home with his siblings and Julius at a restaurant with Rochelle.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Despite still having to go through hell to get it, namely all the chaos with the babysitter, her personal life, and missing his basketball game, he still doesn't get in any undeserved trouble by the end of the episode.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: A majority of this episode's problems is directly caused by Julius ironically trying to make things better. He tells Chris not to call him and his mother while they're out and just handle everything himself, allowing the Yvette drama to get out of hand, and he waits with Rochelle at the restaurant for coleslaw that she didn't even see as a big deal, which got them robbed.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: The chaos seems to have been resolved until Chris finally sits down only to realize he missed the game he's wanted to watch all night.
