The Cabal have returned in force to the Sol system, this time, led by Princess-Imperial Caitl. She initiates a Rite of Proving, calling on former Red Legion Cabal to come under her banner. She also invites the Guardians to participate in the Rite of Proving, offering to enter into an alliance with the Vanguard if they prove victorious in the Rite.
Season of The Chosen contains examples of:
- Enemy Mine: Caitl is not directly aligned with either Ghaul's Red Legion or her father Calus, she is instead trying to consolidate power to unite the fractured Cabal forces under her leadership. She approaches the Vanguard under the guise of unity and a common enemy, but with typical Cabal bluntness she demands Zavala bow to her. He refuses, but to prevent open conflict with another Cabal faction agrees to the Rite of Proving where they will be allowed a position on her War Council.
- Internal Reveal: Crow has kept his identity hidden from the Vanguard leadership because he has Prince Uldren's face, but protecting Zavala from an assassin exposes who he really is. Zavala is frustrated this information was kept from him, but acknowledges Crow has demonstrated his loyalty.
