When a pistol is found during the renovation of a pool hall, the team reopens the 1963 murder case of pool hustler Patrick "the Rifle" Lennox, who was killed on the same day as President John F. Kennedy.

Tropes:

  • Battle Trophy: A variation as Al "Baltimore Red" Soddenhein lost the game to Patrick but kept the cue Patrick left behind as "the only cue that ever beat me."
  • Entertainingly Wrong: After shooting Patrick, Sharon hears a woman yelling, "They shot him!" and flees, thinking she's talking about that murder. Of course, the woman actually means President Kennedy's death.
  • Foreshadowing: Hillary in the present only refers to Patrick by his first name. This appears to be casual talk until it turns out she was lying about Patrick being her dad.
  • Parting-Words Regret: Hillary and Patrick quarreled the last time she saw him after he found out that she's not really his daughter.
  • Saying Too Much: Hillary accidentally gives away she's not Patrick's daughter by saying she was named after a horse at a race her parents attended. But Patrick knows that happened two months before he was shipped off to the Navy and as Hillary wasn't born until 11 months later, that means he can't be her dad.
  • Yandere: Sharon Lorleta, who shoots Patrick when he attempts to leave her.
