Recap / Code Lyoko S 3 E 7

Go To

XANA launches an attack, and in an attempt to stop the Lyoko warriors getting to the super computer, he attempts to destroy the factory. However, thanks to William following Ulrich and Odd, he learns of the factory, and tries to help where he can.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch: William and the rest of the group naturally assume that Ulrich voted him out of the group. But, as the group (minus Yumi) is hanging out, Ulrich admits he thinks William would be a great addition to the team and voted yes. At this, everyone realizes that it was actually Yumi who voted no. The scene then cuts to Yumi observing William passing by her house and commenting, "I'm sorry, William. But, I don't think you can be trusted."
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • On Lyoko, Yumi becomes the first person to be able to devirtualize a xanafied Aelita.
    • On the real world, William defuses the detonator and the bombs that were set to make the factory explode.
  • Casanova Wannabe: What Yumi see's William as now, as his "too cool for school" schtick has gotten on her nerves.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Downplayed, as she doesn't actually die, but just before being devirtualized, Yumi throws a fan at XANA-Aelita, devirtualizing her just after being devirtualized herself.
  • Forced Friendly Fire: Yumi devirtualizes Aelita after she herself is devirtualised to stop XANA deleting the Ice region.
  • Foreshadowing: To a later episode: When Jérémie says that a return to the past will erase William's memory when the attack is dealt with, William says that Jérémie shouldn't bet on that because he remembers everything. This ends up foreshadowing William's dreams about the events of this episode later on, meaning that the return to the past didn't fully erase William's memory.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Averted with William. He tells Ulrich and Odd to leave the factory in the case he failed to defuse the bomb, leaving him to be the only one to die. However, they refuse to leave him behind.
  • Idiot Ball: Part of the episode's plot could have been avoided if Aelita had simply waited inside the tower until Jérémie launched the return to the past. Instead, she goes outside where she's caught by the Scyphozoa and possessed by XANA.
  • Magic Countdown: The detonator. It jumps all over the place when it comes to the timer.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Yumi delivers one to William at the beginning of the episode when he finally becomes too pushy in his advances towards her. When he asks what her problem is, she replies...
Yumi: Because I find your second-rate Casanova act sickening! In the beginning, it was pretty nice. But now I'm really fed up! So why don't you buzz off and leave me alone?
    • In the middle of the episode, William delivers one to Yumi regarding her lack of trust in him.
William: Maybe it’s just because they trust me! Not like... [referring to Yumi]
