Recap / Citation Needed S 3 E 3 Sergeant Reckless And Terry Google

Go To

The Tech-dif crew talk about Sergeant Reckless the horse, and a brief tangent on how Google operated in the olden days.

Article of Conversation: Sergeant Reckless

Tropes:

  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: The crew briefly throw some barbs toward Google about their acquisition of Boston Dynamics, and Gary and Tom both note that they are actually in Youtube's own studios (which Google also owns), and are waiting for a reprise from higher up.
  • Black Comedy: Tom asks them all as to why the military would buy a horse, and Matt says "Glue."
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right:
    • Chris mentions that "Sergeant Reckless" is his rank in the army, which Tom gives him a point for, as Reckless was indeed in the army.
    • Gary mentions offhandedly that Reckless was a brown horse, and Tom awards him a point as it was a Chestnut horse.
  • Double Take:
    • Matt does one as he can't believe Google owns Boston Dynamics, and he's visually little scared at the thought.
    • Tom does one of these when Gary says "Mr Google" when referring to who own Google.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Gary when he mentions how Terry Google and Sons operates, in that they apparently send things over a 1940's-esque telephone wire and bring out the card index.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Reckless was apparently famed for eating just about anything, including Poker Chips.
  • Namesake Gag: Gary claims that Mr. Google created the Google search engine, and Tom elaborates as "Terry Google & sons".
    Tom: Mister Google?!?
    Gary:...could be...
  • The Internet Is for Cats: Gary mentions that Cats are "quite big in Youtube's card index", referring to how cats are popular videos online, and also contests that Kittens "outranks it".
  • Oh, Crap!: Matt when he learns Google bought Boston Dynamics.
    • Tom when Chris hits the "Mystery Biscuits" button, and awards Matt "stolen biscuits" to award some trivia about how Military and Surgery operations all happen in theater.
  • Pun: When talking about how he'd file kitten information if it were to be archived:
    Gary: "...Probably by CATegory."
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: As Tom explains to Gary when asking about modern glasses that could work on a horse, Having large lenses for a car or poker glasses would make them too heavy as the refractive index needs to be preserved, and thus get bulkier, meaning the frames can't support them, and would fall off more easily. Tom wears glasses and claims to have tried to find some that avoid this issue, with no luck.
