Tropes present in the episode:
- Ambiguous Situation: It's left unclear whether or not Trina's son was fathered by her stepfather.
- Bullying a Dragon: A student mocks Scott when he asks for footage of the riot, suspecting Scott only wants to better himself. Scott, in turn, threatens to get a warrant to search the boy's locker and bedroom.
- Dude, Where's My Respect?: Scott realizes the students don't respect him and reasons they need to be intimidated into compliance.
- Everything Is Racist: This time around, it's Danny, a White man, making this accusation of Marla, a Black woman.
- Hot Scoop: Monica Peete is an attractive student reporter.
- Humble Pie: Scott helps out a student falsely accused of a crime and is proud of himself. Then he has the wind taken out of his sails when it comes out he encouraged the football players to take down protestors.
- New Era Speech: Scott gives a variation to students, asserting he's going to be on their cases for the next year.
- The Runaway: Trina is reported by Harry to have run away from home with her son.
