Criminal Doppelgänger: Although how the sheriff could possibly arrive at the conclusion that Hoss was associated with the Younger brothers is puzzling ... although it does provide for some of the series' last truly great comedic moments.
Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In the final scene, Hoss is driving the wagon to bring the (60ish) Younger brothers to justice, when he is met along the road by a highwayman seeking to rob him. It turns out to be Younger's (very elderly) father, and the happy reunion is on! Hoss looks to the camera in disbelief, as if to say "Not again!"
Mistaken Identity: A comic case of one as Hoss, then Joe, become mixed up with the bumbling Younger Brothers gang.
