Recap / Batman Wayne Family Adventures Episode 48 Shovel Talk

Go To

Duke sees Cass with a boy, and thinks that she has a new boyfriend...and accidentally tells all of their siblings. Them being the Bat siblings, this of course turns into them low-key interrogating the poor guy while Duke learns that, no, he isn't Cass' boyfriend.

Tropes:

  • Didn't Think This Through: The family sends Duke, who is clearly nervous about the situation and doing a terrible job at hiding it, to distract Cassandra, who has the ability to discern someone's feelings and intentions from body language. Needless to say, it doesn't take long for her to figure out that he's hiding something, and very little time after that for Duke to crack and spill everything that's going on.
  • The Gadfly: Steph knew the whole time that Cass doesn't have a boyfriend, but she decided not to say anything just to see how it would all play out. She finds the whole thing hysterical.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: The title refers to the threatening "you'd better watch yourself" talk that prospective dates traditionally get from the person's family. Luckily, the boy's expression when Duke bursts in indicates that either they hadn't gotten to the threatening part yet, or he was simply oblivious.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Cass' "boyfriend" is just a friend who is a boy.
  • Oh, Crap!: Duke accidentally lets it slip that Cassandra is seeing a boy; he starts sweating as he begs Tim to drop it. When everyone starts to grill him a week later, he says Cass will kill him.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Stephanie is the only one who is smiling and not completely serious as the Bat-kids plan what to do to make sure Cassandra's boyfriend is worthy. In hindsight, it's evidence that she knew the boy wasn't dating Cass and purposely withheld the information to watch her siblings make fools of themselves.
  • Twerp Sweating: When Tim, Jason, and Damian hear about Cass' "boyfriend", they all try to interrogate the guy to make sure he's the level of quality that Cass deserves.
