Armin, Reiner and Jean are left stranded after their encounter with the Female Titan. They are left with only one horse, but they are soon saved by Christa who arrives with extra horses. They wait for the order to withdraw, but to their surprise, they discover that the operation is continuing albeit heading in a different direction. Meanwhile, news reaches the center group about the annihilation of their right flank by the Female Titan as she continues to wreak havoc within the formation. The whole formation soon reaches the Forest of Giant Trees with only the center row entering, while the rest defend the forest from Titans. Eren realizes something is wrong when his squad has no idea what Erwin's orders are and what Levi is doing. As the Female Titan chases at their heels, the squad desperately await Levi's command to attack, but Levi instead tells his squad to cover their ears as he fires his flare gun.

- Cruel and Unusual Death: Nearly every single one of the scout members who go up against the female titan
- Special mention goes to the poor sap who she spins around on his ODM gear like a yo-yo so hard that it causes his spine to snap in half and leaves his body perfectly bent down the middle, backwards
- Implacable Man: Woman actually, but the point still stands. While it was hinted at in the previous episode, this one demonstrates just how utterly relentless the female titan is in her quest to chase down Eren. She shrugs off everything that the Survey Corps throws at her, and kills everyone who tries to stop her or even just slow her down. She finally catches up with Eren at the end of the episode and is keeping pace with Levi's squad as they flee from her through the forest.
- Love at First Sight: Played with, since Reiner, Armin & Jean actually already know who Krista is and have met her before, but when she shows up to rescue them with the extra horse they need to be mobile again, they each immediately fall head over heels in love with her, with the camera featuring the typical glistening-sparkles-effect around her face and all. Their internal narration documents each of their immediate thoughts. Armin says she's an angel. Jean calls her a goddess, while Reiner predicts that she'll be his wife one day.
- Slasher Smile: The female titan sports one as she spins the poor sap mentioned up above like a yo-yo on his ODM gear.
