It's Dylan's birthday, and Beka presents him the diary of Hasturi, the Mad Perseid. She vows to follow its supposed map to Tarn-Vedra, but soon finds herself in over her head.
- Functional Addict: Beka starts taking Flash in order to improve her slip-piloting. It works at first, but she soon becomes addicted.
- Hyper-Awareness: Tyr is able to tell that Beka is using Flash from hearing her heartbeat, seeing her heavy perspiration, smelling her adrenaline, and distinguishing the contact lenses that she's wearing to hide her eyes.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Tyr attempts to leave aboard the Maru, because he views Beka's quest as foolhardy and most likely to prove fatal. He comes along but he's absolutely right.
- Surprise Party: How the episode starts, with Harper faking a reactor meltdown and nearly giving Dylan a heart attack.
