Katie discovers that the Otto family code (4673) is based on the name of Greg's old college girlfriend, Hope, because that's what it spells on a keypad. Katie, predictably, is furious. Meanwhile, Oliver and Gina both apply for a private school ballet sponsorship, pledging that both of them will go, or neither of them will. But when Gina is accepted, she finds she can't keep her end of the agreement. Trip finally grows wise to Pierce's attempts to move in on Taylor (after it is spelled out for him) and demands that Taylor leave the drama club.

- Ironic Echo Cut: Greg insists that the code being named for his old girlfriend is not a big deal. Hard-cut to Doris and Angela at Second Breakfast, both adamant that it is a big deal.
- Make Up or Break Up: All three of the show's ongoing couples are tested in this episode. Katie and Greg's marriage is never in serious doubt but as for the other two:
- Taylor and Trip break up after she refuses to leave the play to get away from Pierce.
- Oliver and Gina break up after she accepts the scholarship, going back on her pledge not to unless both of them got in to the ballet school.
- Protagonist-Centered Morality: Although Gina is portrayed as being in the wrong by not keeping to her pledge with Oliver, nobody in their right mind would turn down the opportunity to accept a full-ride scholarship to an exclusive private school.
