In this adaptation of the famous story and its sequel, Alice wants to be grown up so that she can join her mother, sister and father at teatime with all the other adults. Her mother tells her to be patient and her sister tries to make her see life through her eyes. Then the White Rabbit comes along and she follows after him, tumbling down a more realistic version of the rabbit hole. After a hard landing, the White Rabbit races down the hole with Alice in hot pursuit. She comes across a room where one has to grow larger or smaller in order to get past a little door, which she is certain will lead her home. One thing leads to another and she ends up so big that she starts sprouting tears. She frightens the White Rabbit, who drops his fan and this shrinks Alice to a much smaller size and falls into the puddle, which has grown into a river. She comes across a mouse who hates both cats and dogs and he even sings a song about it. Alice watches him join the other animals in a wild caucus race, which she views as a poor example of manners.

Alice arrives at her party and almost everyone from Wonderland and Looking Glass Land (including the Mad Hatter, March Hare, Doormouse and the Queen of Hearts and her court) is invited. Everyone proposes a toast to Alice's health, but all she wants is to go home. She then gets a nasty surprise when a present addressed to her is delivered at her table. She opens it up…and out comes the Jabberwocky. As the guests struggle to survive, the Queen of Hearts decides to put her infamous command to a more noble use, but the Jabberwocky's hide is too strong. Not even the White Knight can defeat him, but he is able to buy Alice enough time to escape.

Alice confides with the Owl, begging him to save her friends. But he tells that unless she conquers the fears inside her, she will never be anything more than a child. Alice sees the mirror and steps through it. She is finally home, but she is not out of the woods yet. The Jabberwocky has caught up with her, but Alice manages to defeat him by shouting the five most hateful words in the English dictionary "I don't believe in you!" and he disappears. Alice wakes up in the couch and her mother comes over, telling her that it is teatime and she is now ready to join the other adults. As Alice goes upstairs to get ready, she sees her friends singing a farewell song to her in the mirror, hinting that maybe her adventures in Wonderland were not a dream after all.
