Police Brutality: Officer Charlie Burnside is a strong, muscular man who likes to show his might when arresting suspects. Reed quickly becomes aware of Burnside's tactics and, already finding his practical joking around the locker room unfunny, takes an instant dislike to him. When he sees Burnside brutally choking a robbery suspect he had apprehended, Reed files a complaint against his fellow officer and wants him suspended, but cannot for the life of him convince Mac that Burnside's tactics could result in serious problems for the department.
You Talk Too Much!: Eventually, Burnside becomes his own worst enemy when, one afternoon in the locker room where Reed warns him his tactics could kill someone, he runs his mouth off, trying to justify why police officers need to be rough on suspects they've apprehended. Burnside had been popular with his fellow officers but when he goes on about not caring if someone gets hurt or killed, the other officers decide they want nothing more to do with him and walk out. By the next morning, Reed is informed that Burnside had resigned from the force, effective immediately.
