Yes, the Blank Slate is a pretty weird place. Even the sun is weird.
"Sun Blocked" is the fifth episode of Animated Inanimate Battle, released on June 20th, 2022. It is the last episode of the first half of season 1, known as season 1A.

Full recap

The episode begins with a heat wave in the Blank Slate, with everyone struggling to deal with the heat...except Oodle, who is sleeping in his air-conditioned new home having an R&R day. Hanger jumps into the melted remains of Hailstone to cool off, before realizing that she remember a distinct body of water. Cue Yarn pointing out the Ocean. With the Ocean now in front of them, Glassy decides to call for a pool party. Cue the updated intro.

After the intro, everyone is having fun out in the ocean. Frisbee, Ketchup, Album, and Coconut play vollyball, but things go wrong - Frisbee serves the ball, and Album tries to spike it, but then Coconut accidentally spikes her into the net, causing her to get a lot of scratches on her body (as if three weren't already bad enough). As Alef and Toothpick wash themselves off, Oodle finally goes outside and notices that it's hot outside. He recovers Hailstone under Sock's request and is convinced by Team 4 to have the elimination of this episode take place in the ocean due to the heat have.

During the elimination, Alef got the most votes for a prize in which he wins a flashlight. Seeing the elimination as the perfect time to bring it up, Alef takes out the can originally holding the Paint Monster from the previous episode and - in an attempt to influence the elimination vote - turns the can to reveal a red upside-down triangle symbol on it and accuses Nabla of being behind it. Of course, his bro-liance backs him up, while Leek and Glue support Nabla. As the conflict escalates, Oodle suddenly takes the paint can away from Alef and throws it into the portal in which he got the flashlight, explaining that he didn't want the elimination to derail like the previous elimination. With that, the contestants were now allowed to vote by touching the tube of who they wanted off.

Glue immediately rushes over to Alef and touches his tube to vote for him. Ketchup and Frisbee simultaneously vote for Nabla, and Leek - disagreeing in the accusation - votes Alef. After an argument between the cousins, Alef votes Nabla and shortly after vice versa. Whoopee Cushion decides to vote for himself, being confident that he'd be able to survive this elimination. Envelope and Lyre are clearly fed up with his attempt at humor as they vote for him, thus leading to a three-way tie between him, Nabla, and Alef. After some thought, Toothpick drops the last vote, which happens to be on Whoopee Cushion, which means he is the fourth to go. Whoopee Cushion asks if this is a joke, but Oodle transports him to the Doodleverse saying that if it were to be the joke then that would be the punchline.

Not able to take the heat anymore, Frisbee decides to take matters into his own hands by throwing a javelin at the sun. Nabla and Oodle try to comment that the sun is too far away to hit, but then the sun fractures and breaks apart, plunging the Blank Slake into darkness. Oodle asks Alef for his flashlight so he could fix the sun up enough so everyone wouldn't freeze to death.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Beyond the Impossible: Frisbee throws a javelin at the sun...and completely breaks it, plunging the dimension into darkness and scattering some of the sun's pieces everywhere.
  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: We see everyone's eyes after the Blank Slate is plunged into darkness. Oodle is even shown with his normal green eyes!
  • Debut Queue: Being the introduction of two new minor characters.
    • Shade, the shady dealer who is also a shadow with glowing eyes.
    • Spore, a hermit who lives in the crystal cave discovered under Team 2 Mountain.
  • I'm Melting!:
    • Hailstone's death. Chocolate Chip also would have died this way had it not been for Yarn pointing out the Ocean.
    • Candle also dies this way after she lights her wick and eventually melts to death.
  • Kill It with Fire: Tumbleweed's death, and his first in the series.
  • Toilet Humor: When Farty and a flaming Album collide, the scene cuts to Oodle being startled by a distant fart explosion.
