Go To

Basic Trope: A character gets upset after not being invited to someone's party.

  • Straight: Logan's birthday party is coming up, and Mary is excited to go. He tells her that she's not allowed to come, which makes her angry.
  • Exaggerated: Logan has explicitly sent Mary an "uninvitation" telling her where she shouldn't go, since she can't get into the party anyways.
  • Downplayed: The party is in a public space and free for everyone. Logan doesn't tell Mary about it, but if she does find out about it, she's allowed to come.
  • Justified:
    • Mary is The Friend Nobody Likes; having her around wouldn't be fun for the rest of the guests.
    • The activities at the party are too mature for Mary, who is younger than all the other guests.
  • Inverted:
    • Mary is uninvited to Logan's birthday party. She's thrilled, since she doesn't really like him anyways and now she doesn't have to go.
    • Mary is upset by being invited to Logan's birthday party.
  • Subverted:
    • Logan threatens that he won't let Mary go to a party. The week after, she's able to go to his birthday party just fine.
    • Mary actually did get invited; she just didn't check the mail for the invitation.
  • Double Subverted: Logan was referring to a pool party that was scheduled that week, which Mary wasn't invited to.
  • Parodied: Mary fights tooth and nail to get a party invitation to Logan's party, after he said she can't go. When she finally does, the party is super boring and she wishes she had stayed home.
  • Zig-Zagged: Logan doesn't invite Mary to his party. But the co-host, Wendy, does invite her. But the invitation gets lost in the mail. Mary shows up anyways and is allowed inside, until Logan notices and makes her leave.
  • Averted: Mary is invited to Logan's party.
  • Enforced: "What kind of conflict can an episode about Logan's birthday have? I know, what if he didn't invite someone to it and they got mad?"
  • Lampshaded: "You're cordially uninvited to my party!"
  • Invoked: Logan's parents advise him not to invite Mary, since she usually ruins the parties anyways.
  • Exploited: Logan starts having Mary do tasks for him in order to get a party invitation.
  • Defied:
    • Mary is uninvited, but she tries not to let it upset her and then just goes on with her life.
    • Mary successfully convinces Logan to let her come anyways.
  • Discussed: "Mary hasn't shown up yet. Do you think Logan didn't invite her for some reason?"
  • Conversed: "These sitcom characters act like missing a party is such a big deal. She doesn't even like the guy who's hosting it!"
  • Deconstructed: Mary feels left out when all her friends start talking about the party that she missed.
  • Implied: Mary isn't seen at Logan's birthday party. She's known for being punctual, so it's likely that she wasn't late, but we do know that she has a conflict with Logan.

Ha ha, you can't come to Uninvited to the Party!
