Basic Trope: A story is told entirely first person, completely concealing the identity of the the main character.

  • Straight: My Adventures is told in first person, and many key details are left out.
  • Exaggerated: We never find out anything about the protagonist's appearence, gender, life, name, nothing.
  • Downplayed:
    • Although at first it appears there's nothing indicating the protagonist's traits, but going over the story reveals many subtle clues that reveal a substantial amount about the character.
    • A single chapter in a book with Switching P.O.V. doesn't give the name of the POV character.
  • Justified:
    • Alice, the author, intended this and wrote the story in this manner to hide a spoiler.
    • Alice wrote the story to teach Bob a lesson, but it wouldn't work if he'd known whose perspective it was off the bat.
  • Inverted: The story begins with the narrator listing off all of his traits.
  • Subverted:
    • We quickly learn who the character is and their main attributes.
    • Word of God confirms the character is a girl called Faye, as well as many other things about her.
  • Double Subverted: Then it turns out the character is actually another character in disguise. The details of the person under the mask are never given.
  • Parodied: The writers demonstrate Alice's uncreativity having her TRY to create an interesting, well developed character, but instead make said character so bland nobody can figure anything about about him, nor really wants to. Alice then makes a comic adaptation and the character is your average stick figure with no defining traits.
  • Zig Zagged: It seems like the reader is about to learn something...but then it turns into an Un Reveal.
  • Averted: The story is written in third person.
  • Enforced: All the characters address the main character as "you." and refer to them as "them".
  • Lampshaded: "Since 'I' is universal to all genders and ages, I am completely anonymous! I could rob a bank and nobody could do anything, because they don't know who I AM! MUAHAHAHA!"
  • Invoked: Alice and her friends write notes using no names and "I" and try to guess who wrote which by other means.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???

I place a pothole to The All-Concealing "I".
