Basic Trope: A character introduced as a powerful badass joins the party and is disappointingly weak.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia CXIII, Sixra is Hiro's idol/rival who easily sweeps the party in a Hopeless Boss Fight by himself. After undergoing a Heel–Face Turn, he joins the party... and is weaker than any of them.
  • Exaggerated: Sixra joins the party weaker than any of the members were at level one.
  • Downplayed: Sixra is around the average strength of the party when he joins.
  • Justified:
    • Sixra is badly injured between the boss fight and when he joins the party, explaining his weaker state.
    • During the boss-battle, it was level 12 party/level 30 Sixra, but when they met again it was level 60 party/level 35 Sixra due to a lack of training opportunities on Sixra's path. note
    • Sixra's experience is irrelevant to the problems at hand (for example, Sixra is trained as an assassin but Hiro's party specializes in open combat).
  • Inverted: Underrated and Overleveled.
  • Subverted: Based on his visible stats, Sixra is the weakest party member after joining. However, he still possesses several of the high-powered abilities he used during the boss fight to make up the difference.
  • Double Subverted: Sixra has those abilities to make up the difference, but thanks to his lower Mana total, can only cast them a few times per battle.
  • Parodied: The instant Sixra joins Hiro's party, he mentions feeling weaker. Cue him being unable to even hold his weapon, since it's too heavy.
  • Zig-Zagged: Sixra sweeps the party easily in a Hopeless Boss Fight, but is much weaker when he later joins the party. However, he access to the powerful abilities he used in the fight, though his lower Mana total means he can only cast them a few times per battle. However, one of those abilities powers up any allies in the battle, meaning he is useful to have around.
  • Averted: Sixra is just as powerful when he joins the party, giving you a powerful ally.
  • Enforced: The game is based on a book in which Sixra is inexplicably weaker when he joins the party.
  • Defied: Despite the classic setup of the trope, Sixra joins the party and is every bit as badass as expected.
  • Conversed: "With how much hype was placed on Sixra joining, I'm surprised she's this weak!"
  • Deconstructed: Sixra was under the influence of the Big Bad during his fight with the party, boosting his power greatly. After the influence is broken, he admits to being far weaker.
  • Reconstructed: Despite being weaker with the influence, he joins the party anyway to help in defeating the Big Bad so no others need to experience that.
