Basic Trope: A door is opened and water blasts out from behind it.

  • Straight: Bob opens a door and is hit by a wave of water.
  • Exaggerated: Bob opens a door and is submerged as an entire ocean rapidly floods his house.
  • Downplayed: Bob opens a door and a small puddle drips out, forming around his feet.
  • Justified: Bob left a tap running inside the room.
  • Inverted: ???
  • Subverted: Bob opens a door, but no water comes out.
  • Double Subverted: Then suddenly, a wall in the room breaks open and water rushes out from behind it.
  • Parodied: Bob opens a door and a flood of Alices pours out.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob opens a door, but no water comes out. Then a wall breaks open and water floods out. Then the water evaporates. Then the water condenses again and drenches Bob.
  • Averted: Bob made sure that no water appliances were still running before he left the room.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: “How did that even happen? There was a space under the door!”
  • Invoked: Bob wants to play a prank on Alice, so an hour before she has a shower, he leaves the bathroom tap going so she’ll be hit by a flood when she opens the door.
  • Exploited: It’s an extremely hot day, so Bob is refreshingly cooled down when the blast hits him.
  • Defied: Bob opens the door, but instantly closes the door when he sees the water, stopping most of it from flowing out.
  • Discussed: “Don’t leave the tap on! You’re gonna end up opening the door later and it’s gonna all flood out!”
  • Conversed: “Hey, remember when that guy in that one movie opened the door to his house and got knocked down by water?”
  • Deconstructed: All of the water drains out through the bottom of the door before Bob opens it.
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: Bob is propelled against a wall when the water hits, and the next shot we see of him is him dripping with water and wearing an angry expression.
  • Played for Drama: Bob drowns to death when the water floods out.
