Basic Trope: A character accepts that they deserved their Laser-Guided Karma.

  • Straight: Frederick admits that he deserved to suffer an life-threatening illness for being an abusive Jerkass.
  • Exaggerated: Frederick admits that he deserves every bad thing to happen to him for being the most evil individual on earth.
  • Downplayed: While reluctant about it, Frederick accepts that being sent on 3-month probation was well-deserved for violating the law.
    • Fredick notes in his last stand that for any combatant on the battlefield it is only betrayal which is a sin, not killing. Because they have all are trying to or have killed for a cause or their own lives, and that it would be hypocritical for any of them to complain about it.
  • Justified: Frederick wants to show others that he is disgusted of what he's done and that he had a change of heart.
  • Inverted: Frederick refuses to admit that he deserved to be rewarded after saving the heroes' lives.
  • Subverted:
Frederick: I have to say that being sick was...the worst thing to ever happen to me!
  • Double Subverted:
Frederick: ...but I suppose that it's what I deserved.
  • Parodied: Frederick accepts that being burned alive for spilling milk on the floor was a just punishment sent by the gods.
  • Zig Zagged: Depending on the punishment, Frederick alternates between accepting his fate and insisting that it was too harsh.
  • Averted: Frederick doesn't admit that he deserved what he got.
  • Enforced: "We want to show how humble Frederick is during his Redemption Quest."
  • Lampshaded: "People usually say that they're being unfairly punished for their crimes. You're not like that."
  • Invoked: The heroes figure that Frederick was too prideful to accept his punishment, and decided to take matters in their own hands in making him admit it.
  • Exploited: The heroes convince Frederick to become The Atoner to get better karma.
  • Defied: "Why would I ever want to admit that I got what I deserved? You idiots need to lay off drinking Karma's kool-aid."
  • Discussed: "Did you ever consider that maybe you got what you deserved for being such a monster?" "Yes."
  • Conversed: "Frederick may have done some terrible things, but for some reason, he doesn't fight back as he's stopped."
  • Implied: Frederick doesn't get defensive when receiving his Laser-Guided Karma.
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed: The heroes then relent and accept the fact that Frederick did meant what he said about his punishment and soon they and Frederick put the past behind them and move forward.
  • Played For Laughs: Following an amusing but painful slapstick sequence, Frederick reluctantly says that he deserved it.
  • Played For Drama: Frederick's habit of accepting karmic punishment really starts to take a toll on his sense of self-worth. Believing that he shouldn't be allowed to lead a prosperous life after feeling the full gravity of his misdeeds, he decides to punish himself for the rest of his life.

I give a Karmic Nod to the main page, because what I did was not fair.
