Basic Trope: A surprised or scared character's eyes pop out from their sockets or bug out.
- Straight:
- Bob notices an attractive woman while walking down the street, and he reacts by having his eyes fly out from their sockets.
- Alice scares Bob with a monster mask, causing him to freak out as his eyes pop out from their sockets.
- Exaggerated: Bob's eyes grow bigger during both reactions.
- Downplayed: Bob's eyes bulge out slightly, but otherwise stay in their sockets.
- Justified: Bob is a toon.
- Inverted: Bob's eyes fall into their sockets.
- Subverted: Bob's eyes seem to pop out of their sockets, but it turns out that Bob was wearing a mask in the likeness of his face with spring-loaded eyes
- Double Subverted: The moment Bob takes off the mask, Alice suddenly scares him with a monster mask, causing his eyes to pop out from their sockets for real.
- Parodied: Bob's eyes come to life once they fly out from their sockets and...
- If he notices attractive women: Start ogling whatever made Bob lovestruck.
- If he's scared: Put on hats, grab suitcases and run away.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob's eyes either pop out from their sockets, extend from their sockets, or have duplicates of them appear in front of them.
- Averted: Bob's eyes never pop out of their sockets.
- Enforced: As Bob's universe is a homage to Tex Avery cartoons, he has to react like this.
- Lampshaded: "Bob, what the hell happened to your eyes?!"
- Discussed: "Why do Bob's eyes always do that... thing when he's surprised or scared?"
- Conversed: "Gee. Bob thinks he's a Tex Avery character."
- Deconstructed: Alice scares Bob with a monster mask, causing him to scream as his eyes pop out and fall out from their sockets, forcing Alice to call an ambulance to do eye surgery on Bob.
- Reconstructed: As a result of his eye surgery, Bob is given robotic eyes, allowing him to Eye Pop without his eyes falling out.
