Go To

Basic Trope: A child clings to someone older (usually their legs) out of shyness, fear, or affection.

  • Straight: Amanda clings to her mother's legs whenever she meets new people because she's timid.
  • Exaggerated: Amanda clings to her mother all the time and follows her everywhere— even to the bathroom.
  • Downplayed: Amanda occasionally clings to her mother's leg.
  • Justified: Amanda had been separated from her mother for a long time, so she developed separation anxiety that results in her clinging to her mom a lot.
  • Inverted: Amanda's mother clings to her.
  • Subverted: Amanda looks like she's about to hug her mother's leg but it turns out she's just reaching for something behind her legs...
  • Double Subverted: ...but then she really clings to her mother afterward.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Sometimes Amanda is clingy and sometimes she's distant and hates displaying affection.
  • Averted: Amanda never clings to her mother's legs.
  • Enforced: The creators want to make Amanda seem innocent and act like a child by making her cling to her mother.
  • Lampshaded: "Amanda sure loves to cling to your leg all the time, huh?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Amanda doesn't cling to her mother so she wouldn't be called clingy by others.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played for drama: Amanda's clinginess happens because she's afraid her mother is gonna leave her and go away.
  • Deconstructed: Amanda's clinginess is shown to prevent her from going out and being on her own without her mother being near her. She develops separation anxiety and is unable to play with other kids her age because of it.
