Nightmare Fuel / The Diamond Girls

• Jude, Dixie and Rochelle having to spend the night alone in their new house, in a rather unsafe neighbourhood and no power. All of them are afraid the gang Jude got into a fight with earlier will come back for them. Jude, who’s only fourteen, insists she will fight them if them if they try to break in, but they’re outnumbered and can’t even call the police for help.
• The way Mary’s mother treats her, especially the scene in which Dixie witnesses her pinching Mary’s nose and shoving her sandwich crusts down her throat.
• Dixie, a ten year old girl, rather graphically imagining her mother dying in childbirth.
