- The account of the journey into the woods that Alex begins to read about halfway through Season 1 definitely qualifies. For starters, there's never any reason given initially for why it's even there, and Nic doesn't even comment on it. The slow realization that it's actually Nic's journal is horrifying.
- There's a certain moment during the reading of Day 4 when Alex suddenly stops reading mid-sentence. There's a short silence, and then she begins reading again from a different point, as if nothing had ever happened.
- "I tried to stay away but the darkness slowly flowed over me like water, into my nose and throat, drowning me to sleep."
