Fourth book in the Endless Quest book series, based on the Dungeons & Dragons game.

Brion, elven prince of the overrun kingdom of Brookmere, is leading a party back to scout out the remnants of his former kingdom and see about launching a mission to retake it.

Return to Brookmere provides examples of:

  • Dungeon Crawling: The books are still mostly based around the experience of navigating a dungeon, with Brion sneaking around in tunnels and having encounters with random monsters whenever he enters a new room.
  • Fantastic Racism: There's a racial dispute between goblins and orcs, about whose kids are smart and honest, and whose aren't.
  • Live Item: The Mouth of Mimulus amulet Brion was equipped with before setting out on his mission. It can talk to him and cast spells, but for some reason he only learns this once he's trapped underground in Brookmere and his necklace makes an
observation on their state of affairs.
  • Red Shirt Army: Brion's companions all die in an unavoidable fall into the caverns under the castle before the first choice.
  • Weasel Mascot: An ally Brion can make is his pet weasel from when he was a kid, who's now bigger than he is.
