* ForceAndFinesse: Ashes and Andrea respectively as they serve as a {{Foil}} to the other. Ashes, with black hair and clad in black, is a melee fighter who focuses on close-quarters combat to overwhelm enemies with her strength. Andrea, with blonde hair and clad in white, is a long range fighter who focuses on ranged combat to snipe at enemies with precision.

* EpicFail: Any of Roland's enemies who underestimate him [[AssumedWin thought they could crush his meager army with their superior numbers]], only to get mercilessly gunned down. It doesn't get any better when others try again once they managed to get (outdated) flintlocks, but are still overpowered by Roland's newest firearm improvements. One of the more pathetic moments was when one of Timothy's last loyal soldiers managed to create two boulder cannons (which took months to make), but are nothing more than glorified catapults with incredibly short range. The First Army soldiers easily dodge the clumsy shots, the respond with a salvo of mortars, completely obliterating the enemy castle.

* BigDamnHeroes: When Jaques Medde leads the four noble families to launch an attack on Longsong Stronghold, the soldiers stationed there get cornered by the invaders' numbers. Fortunately, word of their attack was discovered by Border Town and Roland sends the First Army as reinforcements. When one soldier was about to get killed by a knight, Ashes drops down from a demon bird Maggie and butchers the invading knights.

* TeensAreShort: Teenaged girls are often described as being little girls, including one scene where a soon to be witch is fighting off bullies who are stated to be twice her height. So she's probably only seven or eight, right? No, she's in her mid teens, as the next scene confirms.

Probability theory as Genius Bonus

Added DiffLines:

** It is actually played with, because [[spoiler:it can't be really improbable shot, if probability of your success is certain by definition of related theory - and therefore it always equals 1. Or at least almost. And that was hinted multiple times.]]

Kill Em All was renamed Everybody Dies Ending due to misuse. Dewicking

* KillEmAll: Of the 40+ members of the [[spoiler:original Witch Cooperation Association]] story-line, exactly ''6'' survive to the end, one of which actually had a name before that point.

* HaremGenre: Averted. Despite the title and the witches themselves have more than enough reasons to like Roland, only 2 of the witches (Anna & Nightingale) fall for him [[spoiler:with Roland choosing to marry both of them]]. WordOfGod admits it is due to the author's wife intervention of not wanting to be a harem, and instead giving the witches their own stories and roles that doesn't not include Roland. There are implications that other witches are attracted to him, but do not pursue this and cleanly give up very quickly because it's obviously impossible due to their status, infertility and Roland having very obviously chosen Anna.
