- Adult Are Useless: Elsie's teacher, Miss Roberts, appears to be aware of Marilyn and Susan's bullying towards Elsie, yet doesn't seem to actually punish them for it, given they continue to bully her.
- Also applies strongly to Elsie's mum, who completely neglects her, always putting her own needs along with he boyfriends and jobs before Elsie, and is shown to overall be a terrible mother.
- A Girl and Her Ex: Elsie ends up forming a special bond with the hospital cat, Queenie.
- Alpha Bitch: Marilyn. Susan could be seen as an equal one, although is perhaps more of a Beta Bitch.
