Heartwarming / Night Court (2023)

• He'd protest, but Dan is basically an adoptive dad to Abby. He makes it clear that Harry would never be ashamed of her when she confides her regrets about losing so much time with him due to her alcoholism, and at another point, he uses her full name when she pulls a stunt just like an exasperated parent would. In one episode, a guest character, who hasn't even met either Dan and Abby, has gotten the impression that they are father and daughter (and that Abby is a thief who stole an elf costume), and neither Donna nor Olivia bother to correct him.
  • There was another character in that same episode who did meet them both, and also thought they were father and daughter. ("Your dad seems cool.") Dan and Abby were too surprised to correct him, however.
• In "Wheelers of Fortune", taking a cue from the original series employment of Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane, Dan ends up uttering the phrase that Harry and Abby agreed would be a signal to her that he was still around after death.
  • There’s three possibilities:
    • Dan knew/took a correct guess at this phrase and said it without revealing that he deliberately did so in order to make her happy.
    • Harry did use his old friend as a vessel to speak to his daughter.
    • It was just a happy coincidence.
  • In this same episode, Abby leaning against Dan on the sofa, and Dan not objecting (and even sniffles a little bit).
  • Dan admitted he wanted to be wrong about the psychic, and saying that he liked all the talk about Harry over the past few days. While he's not mushy, he clearly misses Harry.
• Dan giving Roz away at her wedding.
• Abby getting to officiate the wedding of one of her dad's old friends.
