Heartwarming / Criminologist Himura and Mystery Writer Arisugawa

Go To

  • Though Himura is usually cold to most people, one exception is his landlady Tokie, whom he's notably more kind towards.
    • He spends most of "An Odd-looking Customer" trying to solve a riddle so that Tokie can get into her safe. When he figures it out, he and Arisugawa put on a cute little show of revealing the answer to Tokie.
    • When Tokie inspires his "Eureka!" Moment in "Dali's Cocoon", Himura thanks her with a hug. Tokie is overjoyed by his unusual display of affection.
    • At the end of "Smashing a Show Window", Himura comes home with a gift for Tokie. She's surprised at his kindness and offers him a kiss in return.
  • Himura describing Arisugawa's novel as "one of the best", with Arisugawa rubbing his nose humbly.
  • Tokie saying without hesitation that she'd take Arisugawa with her on holiday if she were lucky enough to win the lottery, and the ensuing conversation:
Tokie: I can't die until they announce the winner. This is how I stay healthy! Gleefully waiting for your next novel is also another way to stay in good health!
Arisugawa: You have to live a lot longer Ms. Tokie!
Tokie: Ugh, you make me so happy. Himura-sensei won't say anything like that directly to me.
  • Himura's calm reassurance of Akemi when she gets upset at her Absurd Phobia:
Akemi: But being scared of the sunset is abnormal, right?
Himura: What's normal and abnormal is not black and white. Why don't you wait until the sunset is over? You're not scared of pitch black coffee, right?
  • After the "Study in Vermilion" case is resolved, Nabeshima bids farewell to the ghost of his dead partner Ogata, the two of them saluting each other before Nabeshima leaves the scene.
  • At the end of "Apollo's Knife", Arisugawa is able to come up with the conclusion to the case. Himura is seen with a proud little smile on his face as Arisugawa goes through his reasoning.
  • Remembering that they had hot pot when Arisugawa first visited, Himura and Tokie set up another hot pot dinner for the three of them. Their plans meet a hitch when Arisugawa is kidnapped, but he's able to be rescued and the episode ends with the three enjoying their dinner and generally having a great time together.
  • "Detective, Blue Era" shows how Himura and Arisugawa first met, from Himura instantly taking an interest in Arisugawa's writing to Arisugawa taking an interest in Himura himself and defending his oddities to the rest of their classmates. When Himura deduces that their classmates are lying about a near hit-and-run, they're all offput by him — except for Arisugawa, who fawns over Himura for seeing through their lies.
