Heartwarming / Blinded by the Light

  • This film has a powerful line for anyone who wants to write creatively and fears that their work is not good enough. After being inspired by the music of Bruce Springsteen, Javed gathers up his poetry and presents them to his teacher with one essential truth about them or any creation done from the heart:
Javed: They're not brilliant, but they're mine.
  • In a nice Bait-and-Switch moment, after finding one of his angry poems, Javed's grumpy old neighbor compliments him for standing up to the local Neo-Nazis, elaborating on how he fought against the original Nazis in World War II.
  • At the end of the film, Javed's father finally learns to share his love for the messages in Springsteen's songs, jokingly speculating that the musician is Pakistani himself.
  • Matt's efforts to find a girlfriend for Javed are one of the more constant positive aspects of their friendship, and the happiness of hearing that Javed found a girlfriend on his own is what makes Matt thaw out toward Javed during their Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure.
  • Emma (Matt's girlfriend and the record store clerk) lets Javed have the old Springsteen records that are being thrown out for free.
  • Matt's dad acts as a backup singer when Javed serenades Eliza at the market place and several customers are also seen happily dancing to Springsteen.
  • Mr. Evans convinces Javed to swallow his pride and make amends with Matt simply by saying "good friends deserve to be listened to" after Matt lists his, fairly reasonable, reasons for being mad at Javed.
  • Javed accompanies his younger sister to a nightclub, and they're both having fun when he sees her greeting a boy and realizes the two are in a Secret Relationship. Javed gives Shazia a stern look, which implies he disapproves ... which lasts for just a couple if seconds before he smiles and congratulates Shazia on having met someone and keeping it secret from their dad for so long.
  • One of the airport guards stops Javed after he mentions wanting to see Bruce Springsteen's hometown, in a tone initially suggesting confrontation. Up to this point white men have scoffed at Javed's inclination for Javed, but instead the airport guard begins to gush that the number one reason to visit America is to see "the Boss's" hometown, before eagerly stamping Javed's ticket.
  • Any time Roops, Javed, and Eliza dance to Springsteen music together.
  • Javed's reaction when Ms. Clay compliments his poems.
  • Javed sells his record collection to buy back a heirloom his mother had to pawn.
