• Is the audience meant to empathize with Father or consider him a less progressive counterpart to Mother. He seems relatively polite to the Black characters in the film, and most of the time if he's less than compassionate about his mother, it's because of safety or the logistical challenges of his family. If there's a moral arc to this universe, why does she leave him?
