  • What species of human was Robin?
    • We now know that the first Homo sapiens in Britain were significantly darker-skinned than most modern Europeans; the first post-Neanderthal people with pale skin were Neolithic farmers. Yet Robin's people hunted mammoths, which were extinct in Britain by the time the Neolithic farmers came.
    • Robin's brain appears to be too primitive to fully master speech. Combine that with his facial structure, pale skin, and familiarity with mammoths, and it's a near certainty that he's at least part Neanderthal. However, whether Neanderthals had language is still up for debate, although it is almost certain that they had the right laryngeal apparatus for speech.
    • Yet Robin died within sight of a stone circle - which weren't built until the Neolithic, thousands of years after the Neanderthals were supplanted.
    • Robin is roughly the same size as the later ghosts of Button House, and Mike and Alison - which is small for a Neanderthal. But perhaps he was just small for a Neanderthal, just like there are short people today.

  • How is Robin still unable to master English grammar after all this time?
    • If we go by the theory that Robin is a Neanderthal, perhaps his brain is simply not physiologically adapted for speech and language. (It is debated whether Neanderthals had language.)
    • English grammar has changed a lot over the last however many thousand years Robin has been dead. He'd have to re-learn it every time, hence why he hasn't mastered it yet!
    • Robin spoke fluent French by the time Humphrey and his wife lived in Button House. Robin can understand and translate the French spoken by the guests visiting Button House in Season 5, which would be quite different from the French in Humphrey's time, so presumably he was able to update his knowledge of French since then. Perhaps Robin is able to speak fluent Modern English, but chooses not to for comedic effect.

  • Lady Button jumps out of the window every morning when the grandfather clock strikes at a certain time. Once they became aware of this, the ghosts tried to manage this by changing the time on that clock so they did not get awoken so early. Since it seems to be the clock's chiming a certain number of times and not the actual time of day that makes her jump (otherwise changing the time on the clock wouldn't make a difference), why don't they have Allison silence the clock? (Some grandfather clocks allow you to silence the chime.) As is, Lady Button continues to re-enact her murder daily.
    • Some have that feature, not all. Especially if it's a particularly old clock (entirely possible in a house as old as Button House).
