• So what happened to Fred's parents? Fred isn't that old by the start of the series, about 28 based on him going to his high school reunion; so his parents are probably also relatively young (early 50s to mid 60s most likely). Yet even when Krystal is talking about her mom dying of cancer or her dad refusing to attend their wedding, Fred never brings up if his parents were invited or not. The fact that the books are mainly told from his POV, the fact he hasn't mentioned his parents even once in 8 books is somewhat confusing.
  • We don't really know much about Fred's pre-vampire life. We know that he was a chubby geek and not very popular in school, and that he was a bit of a recluse without much of a social life. There's never any mention of any family, even in situations where it would be natural to bring them up, so it seems fairly safe to assume that he doesn't have one. He could be an orphan, or his parents could have perished in an accident... or, less dramatically, they were an older couple who had their only child late in life and passed away before the story began.
