At one point he ditches his studies and focuses on the school play in an attempt to impress her. Then they both attend a showing of Cyrano de Bergerac, with him staring at the back of her neck the entire time. Then he finally musters up the courage to wait at her house after school and confess his feelings, carefully going over what he's going to say and mentally preparing himself. At the moment of truth, he barely sputters out a sentence of small talk before awkwardly retreating. Even funnier, Lila barely even knows him, and is implied to be dating a college boy at that point.
  • It swings back deep into Tear Jerker territory when you remember Lila died shortly after they last saw each other decades ago, and Yambo never knew what happened to or got over her.
