  • Bobby Benson, to Klaatu.
Bobby: (with a sincere smile) I like you Mr. Carpenter, you're a real screwball!
  • Don't you just hate it when you have to repeat yourself? This secretary sure does.
    Secretary: The phone doesn't work.
Mr. Krull: Well then call the phone company.
Secretary: But... the phone doesn't work!
  • Klaatu's response when Mr. Harley attempts to give him excuses why he can't address the nations of the world.
Mr. Harley: And there are practical considerations, the enormous distance required to travel!
Klaatu: I just travelled 250 million miles!
  • Possibly the most hilarious scene in the whole film is Klaatu (alias 'Mr. Carpenter') calmly eating breakfast with his fellow boarders while a radio commentator waxes hysterical over the 'threat' of the alien.
  • Two men discussing Klatuu's surprisingly long lifespan.
Army physician: Their life expectancy is a hundred and thirty.
Medical Corps Major: (Army physician offers Medical Corps Major a cigarette) How does he explain that?
  • When Klaatu trades him two cut diamonds for two dollars, Bobby assures Klaatu he won't tell his mother about the trade, because she doesn't like it when he steals. Kid knows darn well what an unequal trade it is, and Klaatu seems quite amused by Bobby's honesty.
