  • Bob left a phone for Julius because he knew he'd need it... four months ago.
Julius: If he knew to mail me a phone four months before I needed it, why didn't he just tell me Mother was going to kick me out instead?
  • On the long list of annoyances Bethesda has with Julius, she mentions that he spends all his time playing online games with humans—and he doesn't even win.
  • Bob sends Julius a cheerful message explaining that he is sending Julius some help. And he sold everything in Julius's room to cover the cost.
  • Julius's protests when Marci calls him a "fantastic dragon."
Julius: No, no, no. You don’t know what you’re saying. I don’t have any ambition or guile, and if someone gave me the world to rule, I’d probably try to give it back.
  • Bob's first meeting with Marci.
    Marci: You're Julius's brother.
Bob: I'm Julius's favorite brother. But he won't realize that until next year, so don't spoil the surprise.
  • Julius confronts Bob about his intentions. Bob is Bob about it.
Bob: Don't get your feathers in a fluff. I'm here to help! I can't let you have all the fun, can I?
Julius: What's fun about almost dying?
Bob: But that's the best sort of fun. The kind you can look back on centuries later and laugh about. Of course, since I'm always centuries ahead, I can laugh about it right now. [laughs loudly]
  • Marci refuses to call one of the Great Dragon Seers Bob. Julius admits that his real name is Brohimir, but he only uses that on formal occasions or when he's getting booking for restaurants.
  • Julius and Marci find Justin at the Heartstriker safehouse with fifty empty pizza boxes. Marcy assumes he's been there for a few days. He's been there for ten hours—and he was asleep for eight of them.
Marci: You ate all of this in two hours?
Justin: Please. Haven't you ever seen a dragon eat? This took me ten minutes. I actually thought you were the pizza guy with my second order when I heard the door.
  • When Julius is looking for a weapon to bring to the final battle, he finds Tyrfing, a sword enchanted to never miss its mark. He is familiar with it from knife-throwing competitions from when they were kids.
Justin: That's how you beat me? I knew you cheated!
  • The Black Reach's introduction: He calls Estella right as she's about to do something dangerous and stupid... and complains that it's too early where he is. He's seen this exact moment coming for decades if not centuries, and promised to warn her away from her own destruction, but never could find a way to deal with the fact that she was going to do it at an inconvenient hour for him.
