  • As Lockwood and Lucy are approaching Mrs. Hope's home in the opening of The Screaming Staircase, Lucy goes over with Lockwood the "new rules" that he's supposed to be following. These include not blabbing about everything he sees, not openly speculating about who killed who, where or when and not impersonating clients to their faces.
  • The Screaming Staircase: Just after the Combe Carey haunting has been resolved, Lockwood unleashes "his most blinding smile" on Inspector Barnes. Barnes grimaces, holds his hand in front of his face, and says, "Put those teeth away, Lockwood. It's too early in the morning and I haven't even had my breakfast."
  • In The Creeping Shadow, since going freelance, Lucy has left the flat where she's staying in a rather appalling state of disorder. A theft incident leaves some bad people after her and her forced to flee back to Lockwood and Co. Lockwood and Holly pay a visit to her flat to get some of her stuff and check on the state of things. Upon returning, Holly expresses her upset to Lucy that the thieves left the flat in such an awful state. Lucy can only nod and try to sound upset.
  • The skull in the jar has a rather nasty sense of humor; it can usually manage at least a couple of moments every book, even if it's just scaring the crap out of poor Holly by an even more spectacular leer than usual.
  • In The Empty Grave, the Skull, annoyed by Lucy and Lockwood and Co.'s refusal to believe his claim that Penelope Fittes and Marissa Fittes are the same person without checking Marissa Fittes's grave, accuses Lucy of practicing "skullism." Lucy has absolutely no idea what he's on about, so he explains that there's racism, and there's sexism, and then there's "skullism." Lucy, wisely, refuses to take the bait, stating simply that what he's saying is fascinating and all and she'd love to discuss it in detail with him later, once they're out of the dangerous situation they're in at the moment.
  • In The Empty Grave, Lockwood takes Lucy to a graveyard and shows her the graves of his parents and sister. That morning, the skull grills her on where she was and she claims that she was on a case while busily making a cup of tea. He tells her that he buys that and suggests that they talk about something else, telling her that if she's looking for a clean teaspoon, there's one by the sink. As she goes to get some milk, he gives what Lucy describes as a theatrical start and begins making crazy faces.
Skull: Ooh, I smell something burning... Wait, wait, it's your pants! Your pants are on fire, you massive liar! You so weren't on a case!
Lucy: We were too! We went to a graveyard, and—
Skull: A graveyard? Say no more! In my experience, graveyards can be used for lots of activities, not just ghost-hunting.
