Funny / Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography

  • A transcript of on VFD meeting illustrates members' tendencies to explain words in casual conversation with the "a word which here means" Catchphrase from the main series. Something about this overly complicated phrasing being spoken, rather than used as a quirk in Snicket's writing style, is inherently funny.
    • In the transcript, every individual is also referred to only with the first initial of their first name, causing a bit of confusion since some of them have the same first initial as others but are not distinguished in any way. This is first introduced at the beginning of the transcript, when the transcriber lists every person there by initial, and explains this is standard procedure and each letter refers to a VFD member, "except for 'I', which is a pronoun."
  • The description of the VFD disguise kit is, for the most part, an interesting experience—not only does it reveal that all of the disguises used by Olaf and his associates are standard-issue VFD disguises, but the outfits of several characters we had no reason to suspect are also listed. The one listed disguise that hadn't been seen in the series? The "nudist disguise", whose components are listed as "nothing".
