  • The first mission of the Avengers shows Fury’s worries about the Avengers Initiative quite clearly. His main worry is that, as civilians, several of the Avengers would ignore orders and be blinded by their own egos and arrogance. Which is exactly what happens. Wasp ignores Captain America’s orders to stay put after realizing that she’s surrounded by infrared triggers, causing her to be caught in an explosion that knocks her out. Giant-Man leaves his post out of concern for her, leading him to be attacked by the base’s automated defenses and leaving the perimeter open for the Chitauri intruder to escape. And Iron Man’s bravado over rescuing Wasp(and, again, ignoring Cap’s advice to stay in position), plus his overconfidence in his suit, make him forget the very same triggers that caught Wasp, and lead to him being knocked out and his suit (and more importantly it’s life support) failing. The only members of the Avengers who actually do their job and follow the plan are Cap and Black Widow, who are forced to break off their pursuit of the Intruder to help their teammates. And, after all of that, the Chitauri is able to get away with stealing all of SHIELD’s data and destroying their Chitauri tracking satellites because no one was watching the exits. If the other Avengers had swallowed their pride and actually followed orders, it is entirely possible that they could have captured the Chitauri and saved all of the base’s materials.
  • Halfway between Fridge Brilliance and Fridge Logic, but in the second movie, it's revealed that the Chitauri, unlike their comic book counterparts, are not shapeshifters except for Kleiser, who is considered a Super-Soldier among them. That's great, except for one scene during the first movie where an unnamed Chitauri absolutely shapeshifts to infiltrate a military base. So... Captain America narrowly missed finding out that Kleiser was still alive an entire film early?
