• Why does Mr. Kelsey plant the idea in Mr. Beckett's head to send Luthor into the "murder-house" when ace-reporter Ollie Weaver would've been able to put two and two together? Because he knew that Luthor, having an overactive imagination as well as being creative would genuinely believe that there was a ghost loose. Ollie, being an ace-reporter, would've figured out the tricks faster and the story wouldn't have captured the town's attention as well as a night in a haunted house.
